Agra has emerged as an important economic, commercial, and tourism hub in India. The city’s economy is strongly supported by tourism, handicrafts, leather goods, trade, small-scale industries, and construction activities. The presence of the Taj Mahal and other historic monuments has made tourism a major contributor to the city’s economy, while improved connectivity and urban development have further supported commercial growth.

Agra is also an important city in Uttar Pradesh and forms part of the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor influence region. The city has been selected for development under the Government of India’s urban development initiatives, including the Smart Cities Mission, with a focus on improving infrastructure, mobility, public services, and the overall quality of urban life.
